       Chapter History

The John Madison Chapter was organized as the first Jackson Chapter by Mrs. Frederick D. Birmingham on 13 November, 2004 at the Jackson Country Club. Mrs. James G. Roberts, Tennessee State President, installed the new officers. The Chapter charter was granted 2 April, 2005, with 21 members, and signed at the Charter Signing Ceremony on 25 June, 2005 at the historic Memorial Hall, First Presbyterian Church, Jackson,Tennessee.  Mrs. James E. Johnston, Honorary President General, read the names of the charter members as each signed the charter.

The John Madison Chapter was named for the great-great-grandfather of President James Madison, from whom Madison County, the chapter home, took its name.  John Madison was probably born before 1630 in England and died before 1682 at his home in New Kent County, Virginia.  His descendants became leaders of their community in Virginia, and were among those families who dominated Virginia politics in the colonial period and the early years of the new United States.
